In the process of experimenting with natural dyes, I began to see mold grow on a piece of cloth I had let sit in hibiscus. The dye, made by boiling dried hibiscus flowers, had dried and a layer of spores began to grow.
The mold colonies were circular and small-- white, brown and turquoise dots on a pink background. Instead of washing the cloth, I repeated the process. I made more hibiscus dye and began to feed the mold.
